It’s been a week since Amor spent Christmas in Carlo’s house.
He can’t seem to forget her.
That encounter with her was by far the only time he’d been genuinely happy in years.
The way she talked to his daughter and the way Abby animatedly talked to her never fails to make him smile whenever he remembers it.
He also didn’t realize that he’s still capable of having fun, of enjoying even a simple conversation with someone.
He wanted to have that kind of moment with her again but how can he find her when he wasn’t even able to get her number.
“Liza did you get the information I need?”
“Sir I checked her given address at the hotel records but it doesn’t exist. Even her phone number is unregistered.”
He was frustrated.
He wanted to see Amor again.
At some Christmas party in a mansion in Punta Verde, Amor Powers was seated beside the governor of the said province.
He was the reason why Amor returned to the Philippines.
This is the reason why despite the boredom she had to endure when with him, she stuck with her plan and this includes getting near him. It is important to keep her enemies closer.
He was her unfinished business.
The music from a piano somewhere in the mansion plays a hauntingly sad Christmas song.
“I’ll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree”
It was also Christmas last year when she encountered Carlo Asuncion, the man who became her Savior, her Santa.
Oh how she wanted to get in touch with him after that Christmas they spent together. But she couldn’t jeopardize the real reason why she went home to the Philippines. She didn’t want to involve Carlo in her complicated life. He doesn’t deserve someone like her.
But she regretted her move. She regretted not giving him her number. She regretted hiding from him.
She had been aware of Carlo’s actions to find her and there have been times when she had to restrain herself from going to his place and knocking on his door. She just couldn’t.
She had been wondering if they could have been very good friends, or even lovers if circumstances were different.
“Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams”
Her eyes are now getting misty as she listens to the lyrics of the song.
She wanted to have a place to call her home. She wanted a family of her own, children or her own. She knows she doesn’t deserve the loneliness she had been experiencing all these years.
But the only man who made her heart skip a beat was Carlo, but she let him get away. She didn’t give him a chance to be near her. She also deprived herself of the happiness she felt with him.
It was her third glass of wine. She couldn’t even understand what Gov. Eduardo Buenavista was telling his business associates who were also at the party.
Her eyes were boringly staring at random guests in attendance.
Then she saw him, talking to a female companion. She saw Carlo. He was at the party too. She tried to pinch herself to make sure that she wasn’t dreaming. She looked away believing that she was just imagining him. Maybe her constant thoughts of him, together with the wine she had been taking clouded her senses already. It is impossible for him to be here.
But she glanced again and now his gaze was on her. He was by himself now. The lady he’s been talking to, must have left already.
She tentatively gave him a smile. He didn’t return it. He rather gave her a curious stare. She just slowly removed her eyes on him, embarrassed by her actions. Of course he probably didn’t remember who she was anymore. The thought of it brought a pinch to her heart. He didn’t seem to recognize her anymore while she had his face embedded in her memory. And that face was what kept her excited all these months.
“Magaling Eduardo! Kaya pala hindi ka pumunta sa inauguration ng building natin dahil kasama mo na naman ang malanding babae mo!” It was the governor’s ill-bred wife Claudia Buenavista who suddenly appeared at party. The governor, who was obviously caught off guard by his wife’s sudden appearance couldnt decide on what to do to control his wife or protect Amor.
Claudia had been spewing invectives and was drawing attention already when all of a sudden a strong arm went over Amor’s shoulder. She even felt a kiss on her head.
“Mrs. Buenavista I think it is rather very rude to be disrespecting the girlfriend of your top business investor.”
Claudia’s eyes grew wide with embarrassment and fear. The person beside Amor was also their top political contributor.
Eduardo was his usual spaced-out, undecided self. He couldn’t say a thing but he just stood up, grabbed his wife by her arm and dragged her outside the venue.
The guests were shaking their heads while talking about how Claudia embarrassed herself again.
He led her to his table. She didn’t say anything. She couldn’t say anything for her heart had been beating fast the moment he put his arm around her shoulder. His presence affected her more than what Claudia did to her.
He saved her again. He is her Santa again.
After a few minutes, she found her voice.
She stared at him with her doe-shaped eyes conveying the gratitude, the longing and the happiness she felt at that very moment.
“Thank you again for saving me Carlo.” Then she hugged him very tight.
When she disengaged, she found his bewildered look.
“Who is Carlo?”
Then before Amor could react, a man approached him.
“Mr. Philip Tang it was nice discussing business with you awhile ago. We will get in touch.”
A/N The plot thickens na talaga. 😊
