Ricky and Maya were having their Skype session.
It’s Maya’s second day after her return to Dubai.
“Alam mo ba yun estudyante ko si Abby, ang lambing nya. Tapos binigyan nya ako ng drawing. Goodbye gift nya.Tingnan mo Ricky.”
Abby had a drawing of Maya and a guy giving her a bunch of flowers.
Ricky’s expression changed and his brows furrowed.
“And who is that guy giving you flowers?”
“Si Lance yan Ricky. Kaklase ni Abby. Every morning kasi he gives me flowers. Ang sweet din na bata. At bakit ganyan ang hitsura mo? Don’t tell me pati sa bata nagseselos ka.”
Then she giggled.
“Malay ko ba na bata yan. He’s tall.”
“Ricky bata din yun nagdrawing nyan. Wag ka nga.”
“Hmp malay ko ba. Baka may teacher who’s giving you flowers.”
“Ricky wala po and for the past five years na magkahiwalay tayo, wala man lang nangligaw or nagbigay ng flowers sakin.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“Totoo nga. No one courted me.”
“Sa ganda mong yan? Nobody courted you? I don’t believe you. Baka naman marami at di mo lang nahalata. Or baka malabo ang mata ng mga lalaki dyan.”
“I never allowed anyone to court me. Alam nilang hindi ako available. Sabi ko kasi may mahal na ako.”
“Hmmm? Hindi ka available? At sino naman yun maswerteng mahal mo na yan?”
He just raised his brows while waiting for her to reply. He was excitedly anticipating her response even though he already knows whom she pertains to.
“Si Luke. Sino pa ba? Akala mo ikaw no?”
She was teasing him. It felt more comfortable to tease him while he’s away kasi she could easily leave the front of the laptop whenever she felt herself blushing or getting overly giddy with kilig at his quips.
“Sus idinamay mo pa si Luke. Nahiya ka pang umamin. But seriously, nobody courted you talaga?”
“Wala nga sabi. It’s all work and family for me here. Sina Cho, Ate Cris at Kuya Jeff lang ang
kasama ko on my spare time. I didn’t like going out on dates. Hindi naman ako mag-eenjoy.”
“Kasi nga ayoko. Atsaka it would be unfair for them kasi alam ko naman na I won’t like anyone else. There is no one who could replace the one I left in the Philippines.”
“Really? So balak mo pa palang tumandang dalaga kung di mo na ako nakita muli?”
“At bakit ka naman nasali sa usapan? Wala naman akong sinabing ikaw yun ah.”
She again laughed as she teased him.
“Nakakatuwa ang hitsura mo Ricky. O sige na nga, ikaw na yun sinasabi ko. Sino pa nga ba?”
He gave her his beaming smile, obviously enjoying what she said that even his already chinky-eyes turned into smaller slits as he smiled.
“So alam na nila that you’re leaving? How did they take it?”
“Oo nakapagpaalam na ako. They were sad siyempre but when I told them about you, about us, tuwang tuwa sila for me. They supported me. May despedida party pa nga daw na inihanda next week.”
“You mean hanggang next week ka pa? I won’t allow that! Di ba sabi mo 5 days ka lang. That’s too much already!”
“Ricky kalma ka nga. Nakiusap kasi sila. Tapos na rin naman kasi yun school year kaya nakiusap sila na mag attend na ako ng closing ceremony. A few more days lang naman yun extension ng pagstay ko dito. Dun na din yun despedida sakin. Ang mga bata kasi Ricky, they want to see me as they sing at the program. Okay lang naman yun di ba? Ten days lang then solong solo na kita at solong solo mo na rin ako.”
She felt giddy at what she said. She could imagine herself with Ricky.
She’s excited to be with him finally and if he asks her to marry him, she would readily say yes. She wanted to start a family with him already.
“Hmp ang tagal pa. I miss you.”
“Ricky second day ko pa lang dito atsaka naguusap naman tayo. Ganito. Kahapon nga magkausap na tayo tapos ngayon naman. Parang nagkikita lang naman tayo nito.”
“But it’s different from having you here where I could wrap my arms around you. I could kiss you and whisper words in your ear. Its different from being able to caress you and nibble your ear… ”
She was getting goosebumps at what he was saying.
“Tumigil ka nga Ricky! Ikaw talaga!”
“What?!? I’m just stating the big difference of not having you by my side.”
“Eeehh wag ka nga. Kinikilabutan ako sa mga sinasabi mo.”
“Kinikilabutan or kinikilig? You want that too di ba?”
The two continued their Skype session which usually lasted for several hours. They never run out of topics and they never get tired of talking to each other and teasing each other.
Maya, with the approval of Ricky, decided to stay until the closing ceremony of the preschool where she works.
As much as she wanted to be with Ricky now, they both decided that she owes her employers a lot for giving her a very good job and formally finishing the school year is a small effort for her to show them her gratitude.
The kids would definitely love seeing her too while they do their usual closing program which also includes showcasing the kids’ talents.
Every year Maya would be in charge of the songs the kids will be singing. They practice with her. Maya being so good with kids enjoys doing it a lot. It’s like playing for them.
Ricky agreed that Maya should be there for the kids. He knows how she loves them.
“Ms. Maya the parents are so excited with our program. Ang dami nilang manonood ngayon. Siguro alam na din nila that you’ll be leaving. You know these parents, favorite ka nila. They will certainly miss you.”
“Naku Ms. Ina mamimiss ko din kayong lahat, yung mga bata, yun mga parents nila na mababait at siyempre kayo na mga katrabaho ko. Salamat sa lahat ha!”
“Oh Maya. We will miss you.”
The two colleagues hugged each other.
“Miss Maya someone is in the visitors area to see you.”
Their guard informed her.
“Sino daw po?”
“Ayaw pong sabihin eh. Surprise daw.”
“Kuya naman. I hate surprises alam mo naman yan di ba? Naku sino kaya to. Maguumpisa pa naman na ang program.”
Maya followed the guard.
She was just approaching the couch where her visitor was waiting when…
The best friends hugged each other.
“Anong ginagawa mo dito Emman?”
“Ay parang ayaw mo akong makita Maya?”
“Ang arte mo Emman! Siyempre gusto. Biglaan kasi.”
“Siyempre it’s your special day Maya dela Rosa dapat nandito ako.”
“Sus despedida ko lang atsaka ayoko nga na alalahanin na last day ko na dito. Mamimiss ko yun mga bata.”
“Aynaku bessie sige go na at baka you’ll start the program already. I’ll just watch there sa auditorium.”
“Sige Emman ha! Thank you so much Bessie! Kwentuhan galore mamaya!”
Then she kissed and hugged Emman again before she proceeded to where the kids were excitedly waiting for their program to start.
Emman joined the audience in the auditorium.
The program started. The first part was the awarding for the kids’ performance in school.
Everyone received different awards and the kids were so happy being called on stage with their parents as they were given a medal and a gift from the school.
Maya and the rest of the teachers were so proud of the kids.
The second part was where they showcased the kids’ talents.
Everyone participated. Each kid was asked to sing, dance, do storytelling and some even played some instruments.
Maya’s heart swelled with pride as she watched the kids’ performance. They were part of her life here in Dubai.
She also missed Luke while watching them.
Luke used to sing and dance too.
She was getting teary-eyed remembering her son.
After the last number of the kids, they swarmed around Maya and asked her to sit at a chair in the middle of the stage.
She knows that this was their despedida surprise for her. She was anticipating it already but she hoped that they would do it not in front of many people. She was not used to being the center of attention.
Then she heard Miss Ina speak…
“Today we are saying goodbye to our very own Teacher Maya who will be returning to the Philippines. We will really miss you Maya and everything you did for the school, for the kids. We hope you enjoy this special surprise we prepared for you.”
Then one by one the kids gave Maya flowers and some cards they did themselves.
The kids all gathered around her then she heard her favorite song being played in the piano.
She couldn’t see who was playing until he started to sing.
“Who knows how long i loved, you know i love you still, will i wait a lonely lifetime, if you want me to, i will.”
Yes, the guy playing and singing his heart out was the love of her life, Richard Lim. 😊😍
A/N The last scene with the kids and the Beatle’s song “I Will” was inspired by a scene in the film “Love Affair” of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty.
Two chapters to go then finally it’s the end of Angel in our Hearts. I enjoyed writing this one.
Thank you everyone for following the story and for all your comments and encouraging words. Thank you for taking time in joining me in coping with the loss of our fave TV couple Maya and Ricky, by doing fanfics of them.
Yes stories become more interesting by just naming the main characters Ricky and Maya. It’s inexplicable why even their names give a sense of ‘kilig’. Iba talaga sila!
Good vibes and God bless! 😊😊😊
